Tech University Exposes 1.3 Million Users' Personal Data

Unknown threat actors have hacked into the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in the US and accessed a central database containing the personal information of up to 1.3 million people, including current and former faculty, staff, students and student applicants. The hackers exploited a vulnerability in the institution's web application and elevated access privileges to view the massive database containing personally identifiable information such as names, addresses, Social Security Numbers and birth dates. Georgia Tech has since rectified the vulnerability in its web application and investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of the incident.
