School Warns of Phishing Attempts Following Password Spraying Attacks

A British school in Dubai has warned parents about possible phishing attempts after it successfully defended against a password spraying attack targeting staff accounts. Password spraying preys on accounts using weak passwords and can circumvent account lockout by running commonly-used passwords against multiple user accounts. Following the failed attempt, the attackers persisted in targeting the network by sending phishing emails containing malicious Dropbox link to school staff and parents. The attackers also tried to extort payment by claiming that they possessed evidences of the recipients' illicit activities on the internet.
