Scammers Defraud US$3.7 mil from Public School
EDUCATION INDUSTRY

A public school in the US became a victim of business email scam when a US$3.7 million payment was directed to the hacker’s account. The fraudulent email appeared to originate from the vendor which requested the creation of an automated payment account. It is likely that the vendor’s email server or email accounts of key personnel in the company are compromised to send out the bogus request. School officials have said that all its systems are secured with no indication of an intrusion or data exfiltration.
