Ransomware Scrambles Final-Year Students' Coursework
EDUCATION INDUSTRY

A school in the UK suffered a ransomware attack after a staff opened a phishing email attachment that triggered the infection. The attack scrambled a server containing student data, including the coursework of final year students sitting for an important national examination. No personal data were exposed in the incident, but daily operation was affected as the IT systems and network were inaccessible. The school did not accede to the ransom demand and investigation is ongoing to determine the cause and origin of the attacks.
