Ransomware Encrypts 15,000 Medical Files

A private hospital in Melbourne, Australia, was unable to access its patient database for three weeks after a ransomware scrambled the server containing the patients' medical database. The affected hospital is believed to have paid an undisclosed ransom for decrypting some 15,000 medical files but not all files are recovered. Details of the attack and malware are not available as investigations are ongoing, but the unknown hackers may have originated from North Korea or Russia. The hospital has assured patients that no data was stolen during the attack and no medical devices were used as the attack vector during the incident.
