More Than 50 DBS Customers Fall Prey To Phishing SMSes

The Singapore police and DBS bank cautioned customers of a reappearance of phishing SMSes, after more than 50 DBS customers fell prey to the scam over the past two months. The phishing SMSes told victims that suspicious activity had been detected in their DBS/POSB accounts and asked them to click on a link, which directed them to fraudulent websites where they were deceived into divulging their banking details. The scammers used the stolen details to add a new payee in victims’ accounts and perform unlawful transactions. They then recruited undiscerning victims from another scam related to fake job applications and instructed them to deposit the stolen money into Bitcoin ATMs.
