Millions of Payment Cards Details Skimmed from Popular Restaurant Chains

A major US hospitality firm, Earl Enterprises, has exposed at least two million payment cards details skimmed from Point-of-Sales (PoS) devices deployed at more than 100 restaurants. The incident affected several restaurant chains including popular brands such as Planet Hollywood and Buca di Beppo. The initial infection vector is unknown but after installation, the malware was able to remain undetected for the last 10 months. The breach was only discovered after a security researcher informed the company that its customers' payment cards details were being sold in carders marketplaces.
