Melbourne Schoolgirl Discovers Confidential Student Files On iPad

A schoolgirl at Manor Lakes P-12 College in Melbourne, Australia, discovered confidential student files on her iPad’s Google Documents folder that contained photos, medical details, and family information of other students at the school. The files disclosed mental health issues and students who were expelled from previous schools and are currently in out-of-home care. The schoolgirl, who discovered the files in September, said that she did not know how the files ended up on her iPad. The school said the breach had occurred due to human error when the schoolgirl borrowed a teacher’s laptop to access her Google documents. When the teacher later used her laptop, the confidential files synced with the student’s account and turned up on her own Google drive.
