Humans are the Weakest Link in the Education Security Chain

Untrained staff and students inadvertently sharing information or clicking on links presents the biggest cybersecurity threat against the Education sector in the US. In 2018, internal threats accounted for 54% of all digital data breaches in US schools, of which the majority were due to human errors such as not using encryption, having a weak password, attaching sensitive data to email and using devices with unpatched vulnerabilities. The open nature of many educational networks makes user-based vulnerabilities more difficult to secure while malware and email scams are also more likely to propagate.
