Hackers Seek to Influence National Elections

Indonesia's National Election Commission has revealed that hackers are targeting the voter database ahead of the Presidential and Legislative elections scheduled to take place on 17 April. The attacks, originating from Russia and China, included attempts to create fake voter identities or known as 'ghost voters' that can be used to swing votes in favour of the attackers' preferred candidate. There is also an increase of false claims circulating on social media with intention to discredit both presidential candidates, Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto.
