Global Publishers Warn Of Phishing Emails Aimed At Stealing Manuscripts
MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY

Penguin Random House North America and Pan Macmillan have warned of a series of phishing attacks targeted at stealing manuscripts. Penguin Random House North America said that the publishing company had seen a rise in such attacks in multiple locations across the globe. In another incident, Eccles Fisher Associates, a London-based literary scouting agency, suffered a phishing attack that masqueraded as the agency’s owner and exploited a vulnerability to access manuscripts, author information, and other confidential material. The recent attacks on manuscripts appear to deviate from previous campaigns aimed at obtaining access to publishing contracts.
