Cathay Pacific Data Breach May Affect 9.4 Million People

Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways has suffered a data breach that may affect as many as 9.4 million customers. Initial findings show that about 860,000 passport numbers, 245,000 Hong Kong identity card numbers, 403 expired credit card numbers and 27 credit card numbers with no card verification value (CVV) are exposed. The hackers may have also accessed the personal data of 9.4 million customers which include name, nationality, date-of-birth, phone number, email address, frequent flyer membership number, customer service remarks, and historical travel information. Cathay Pacific is still trying to determine the extent of the breach since the initial discovery in March.
