Amazon Investigates Employees Leaking Data, Perth Mint Suffers Data Breach

Amazon is investigating allegations that some of its employees have been leaking internal data to third party merchants in China to help them increase their sales on the e-commerce website. The data, which includes internal sales metrics and users’ email addresses, is being leaked to merchants with the help of intermediaries and for payments that ranged from US$80 to more than US$2,000. The practice violates Amazon’s policy but remains prevalent in China.

Further investigation into the Perth Mint data breach that occurred in early September showed that 3,200 customers from their online depository service had been compromised. The mint initially said only 13 customers were affected. The data breach exposed the personal details of customers. The Perth Mint’s online depository service allows customers to buy and sell gold and other precious metals through an online platform.
